    Oakes African-American Cultural Center
    The former home of noted scholar A.J. Oakes, this building now educates visitors on the achievements of African-Americans from Yazoo County. Items on display at the cultural center include art, historical manuscripts and cultural artifacts. Oakes is open till 3pm, Monday through Friday.

    The Cedars Plantation
    Erected in 1836, Cedars is one of the oldest plantations in the county. Constructed in large part by slaves, the house is a reminder of Mississippi's past. Tours of this plantation are by appointment only.

    Isiah Montgomery Home
    The former home of Mound Bayou founder, Isiah Montgomery, this house is located on the town's main street. The house and town is of cultural significance due to it being one of the first communities formed by former African-American slaves.

    Fannie Lou Hamer Gravesite
    Located east of Cleveland, Mississippi, the grave-site of this noted civil rights activist is in Ruleville. Fannie Lou is most well known for uttering the phrase "I am sick and tired of being sick and tired." Interested visitors are advised to call for exact directions to this monument.

    Florewood River Plantation State Park & Museum
    Recreating the look and feel of a cotton plantation circa 1850, this interpretive center is located in Greenwood. Open year round, Florewood features live reenactments and historical performances throughout the day. Senior citizens receive reduced admission prices.

    Tennessee Williams Welcome Center

    The Tennessee Williams Welcome Center is the first home of the famous American playwright who was born in Columbus in 1911. In 1993 this home was in danger of being torn down so efforts to preserve the landmark took effect and today it stands as a historic landmark home dedicated to Tennessee Williams.

    Dockery Plantation
    Once home to several pioneers of the blues, this landmark is located in Cleveland, Mississippi. Dockery Plantation was built in 1895, and quickly became a place of lodging for blues legends such as Charlie Patton and Robert Johnson. The plantation is free to view.

    Brices Cross Roads National Battlefield

    Brices Cross Roads National Battlefield is where the Confederates were victorious under the leadership of Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest. Brices Cross Roads is an excellent example of winning the battle, but losing the war. The grounds of the site are open daily year-round, but the visitor and interpretive center is open 9am to 5pm Tuesday through Saturday and from 12:30pm to 5pm on Sunday. The center is closed on Monday.

    Hopson Plantation & Commissary

    This historic site was home to the first cotton crop commercially produced entirely by machinery. Today, the site features a museum full of antique items that depict the history of the area's cotton industry.
